Fall Meeting & Flower Bulb Give-Away

Cider and Bulbs 2009

Sunday, Oct. 11, from 2-4 P.M. at Broken Arrow Shelter house.

A chance to meet some neighbors and learn about your neighborhood association.

There will be a short business meeting at 2:00, followed by daffodil bulb distribution

(10 bulbs per home), along with a plant exchange for anyone interested until 4 P.M.

Cookies and cider will be furnished.

If your curious, the bulbs are "Tahiti" double daffodils which are golden yellow double daffodils with red-orange centers (really nice!).

27 Street Curb Improvements

A question from IHNA resident

"I live on 27th Street and everyday I ride my bike on 27th street from Missouri to Iowa and I have noticed a serious "drainage" problem on the street. I am glad to see that our curbs will be replaced soon; however, I have a concern about how long those curbs will last. Every morning (no matter the season or the weather) there is a large quantity of water coming from the Knollbrook housing development. There is standing water found under a piece of plywood in front of the house at 2635 Knollbrook. That water spills into 27th street and an entire quarter part of 27th street is soaking wet all the way down to Naismith Park - every morning! Before finishing the curbs you may want to investigate the source of this water. It has been causing damage to the street for years as your pothole crews have probably noticed."

"The current plan is install a new stormwater line along the north side of 27th Street to capture the runoff from the house at 2635 Knollbrook Ct. The original nursing home that was located on the site had foundation drainage problems when it was in service. This ground water along with the sprinklers and sump pump runoff is causing the problem you now see in the street. A curb inlet will be constructed at the location of the water runoff. The ground/surface water will be directed into the north side of the new curb inlet through a perforated pipe that will run under the sidewalk. We are currently getting bids for the additional stormwater pipe and hope to begin constructing the line the middle of next week. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me. What is the IHNA?

The Indian Hills Neighborhood Association has two purposes: to help people in our neighborhood get to know one another, and to represent our interests and concerns to city and county officials.

Everyone who lives in the Indian Hills neighborhood is a member of the association! In the fall of each year we elect officers and steering committee members for the next year. This year, the election is being held at the Neighborhood Plan Drop-In event on December 16 and the Luminaria supply pick-up on December 20. If you feel strongly about your neighborhood, we encourage you to join the steering committee, even if you’ve just moved here.

The steering committee meets 4 to 6 times a year to plan association activities and discuss issues affecting our neighborhood. This year, the two December events will give you opportunities to learn about the steering committee’s work and to talk about our goals for the next year. Regular steering committee meetings are open to all residents. (Contact the Chair to learn about meeting times and places.)

At the 2005 annual meeting, IHNA members voted to eliminate dues, and rely on donations instead. Our largest expense is for printing and mailing newsletters to all households in the neighborhood. We need your contribution! (Suggested amount: $10 per household)
